When the ships of the Great Navy were shipwrecked in September 1588 on the rugged west coast of Ireland, the shipwrecked arrived on the beaches and were slaughtered there by the English and Irish.
Every year, in Sligo, homage is paid on the beaches to the murdered Spaniards.
